The Jewish Brotherhood

Israel's future political force?

by Newton Hoffer

www.aish.com/j/fs/The_Jewish_Brotherhood.html

Jewlarious Satire: Today's Arab countries are witnessing mass public demonstrations where daily uprisings are now de rigueur. Many experts are concerns that extremists will come to power in countries like Egypt thanks to the well organized Muslim Brotherhood.

It is in this kettle of Middle-East political reformation that an international movement has quickly transformed itself into a new Israeli political party – The Jewish Brotherhood, and it is intent on reshaping Israeli politics…forever.

The Jewish Brotherhood is intent on reshaping Israeli politics…forever.

Who are these newly politicized activists?

Broadly speaking, they are your fathers, brothers, uncles and your uncle's gardeners. Together they represent a loose collection of spirited men affiliated with shuls, temples and synagogues throughout the world. It is in Israel, however, where membership to the 'Brotherhood' has now taken on political overtones.

Typical members are Jewish men who enjoy breakfast meetings, tax write-offs and recognition in the form of plaques prominently displayed throughout their shuls. If not for their efforts, egos and love of golf, the imprinting and plaque-manufacturing sector would be totally devastated.

As far as religious affiliation is concerned, it's not so much a case of "don't ask don't tell" as it is "who cares?" The Jewish Brotherhood doesn't care what kind of kippah you wear in shul – as long as you like a good piece of schmaltz herring.

Regardless, whether it is their desire to do good for their community or their self perceived destiny to fill a decision-making vacuum in their congregations, these men share a single, common bond: Guys united by fully paid memberships dues.

Why Jews Are Wandering to the 'Brotherhood'

Political analysts agree that the decisive reason accounting for the sudden rise in the Jewish Brotherhood's is its Action Agenda: A straight forward, no nonsense manifesto embracing social committees, fund raising events, and missions to Israel which will prominently feature numerous trips to army bases and falafel and shawarma restaurants.

Here Come Those Jews!

The Jewish Brotherhood has lately been the subject of rising discussions in Western media. There are worries within secular circles that once in power, the Brotherhood will immediately implement Jewish law in the Holy Land which would include requirements for citizens to honor their mother and fathers, give charity and love their neighbors as themselves!

Deflecting this criticism, Mohammed "Moish" Goldstein, Golan Heights Chapter President, said in a prepared statement: "We believe that the only thing preventing us from seizing power is the law. That is why we want to start our own party. It is also a lot safer and far less bloody."

History has shown that the odds of being successful are formidable. Organizing brotherhood associations in various synagogue basements is one thing. Starting a national movement in a country with the world's most political parties per capita is quite another.

Strategy: The Classic Seat-By-Seat Approach

Slow and steady seems to be the course. Mohammed "Moish" Goldstein Sr. (no relation but a long-time member) agrees. "What's the rush? We've waited this long for unity. How long have you waited for good service at a kosher restaurant? Believe me, there's still time to bake several challahs before we really get this thing rolling."

And that is why the Jewish Brotherhood is winning the hearts of Israelis.

"First we'll start with getting a seat on the Jerusalem #9 bus, then we'll worry about winning seats in the Knesset. Look. It's a long ride for me. I'm old and I hate to stand the entire way through the Old City."
At this rate, the Jewish Brotherhood should form a majority government in another 5,000 years.

Who Wants In?

Whoever wants to get involved is encouraged to join. Left-wing candidates who previously ran under the slogan "Fight Terror With A Smile", now feel welcome at the Brotherhood. Also, fiscally conservative voters attracted to tremendous tax write-offs also find the Jewish Brotherhood appealing — as long as there are Jewish men able to claim tax receipts, there will be a need for the Jewish Brotherhood.

As Mohammed "Moish" Goldstein says, "The beauty is that we're not tied to any single one ideology except that all dues must be paid up in full. I just can't stress that more."

Afghanistan: November 2012
DEC 3, 2012

www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2012/12/afghanistan-november-…

Most media attention paid to Afghanistan this month revolved around a scandal involving General David Petraeus and General John Allen, the two most recent U.S. military commanders there. However, that scandal has had little or no impact on daily life in Afghanistan. Of greater concern there is the continued insecurity. As the 2014 withdrawal of NATO troops approaches, people are leaving Afghanistan at a higher rate than they have since 2002. Iran and Saudi Arabia, rivals for regional influence, are making investments in the country’s infrastructure, each hoping to be the stronger partner after 2014. But it’s far from clear what the future will bring. These photos show just a glimpse of this conflict over the past month, part of the ongoing series here on Afghanistan. [37 photos]

A Kentucky soldier two months from coming home was stabbed to death by a teenager in Afghanistan after he stopped to play with a group of local children, it emerged today.

Sgt Michael Cable, 26, of Philpot, Kentucky, was guarding a meeting between Afghan and U.S. officials in the east of the country near the Pakistan border on Wednesday when a teenager, believed to be aged 16, attacked him from behind with a large knife.

The soldier, who would have been returning from Afghanistan for a vacation in June and then permanently in September, was playing with local children when the attack took place, according to reports.

He died of stab wounds to the neck.

Members of his family flew to Dover Air Base in Delaware on Thursday to watch his body returned to U.S. soil and remembered their fun, outdoors loving son.

His older sister Wendy Dickens remembered his surprise visit to the family in November.

‘He was goofy the whole time and riding and pushing himself on a cart through the store even though he was a grown-up. He just, he was always a kid at heart,’ she told Tri-state.com

His mother Vickie Johnson said: ‘I’m so proud of him because he done it for the United States of America.’

Ms Dickens and Cable’s other sister Lisa spoke of his great rapport with their children and how difficult it would be to explain his death to them.

‘I miss him so much,’ Lisa Osborne said. ‘I had already started day dreaming about when he came home. Playing football with Dave and Kids in back yard. My boys have always seen him as their hero.’

Writing on Facebook, Dickens wrote: ‘Trying to figure out how to answer a 5 yr and 9 yr olds questions about death and dying. My little brother was my children’s hero they thought he was invincible. He was there own special GI Joe and now he’s gone.’

The fact that he was being kind to the local community when he died has been noted by the family, who say he went into the army to ‘help’. He signed up in 2007 and had already completed a tour of Iraq.

‘He was very determined,’ his brother Raymond Johnston Jr – named after their father – told the Courier Press.

‘He just felt that he could really be a good soldier. He wanted to help. He was prepared before he left for anything that happened.’

Former school friends from Daviess County High remembered his sense of humor and athleticism.
He was a Daviess County runner and becomes the second soldier in his running class to be killed.

Cable’s teammate Matt Rowe, who currently coaches at Daviess County, said. ‘Michael’s attitude was contagious. He loved life, cared deeply for his friends, and was always the first to make you laugh. He was the type of person that always had your back, even though he might be going through a tougher situation at the time. His friendship was so sincere and Michael is someone that none of us will ever forget.’

Michael Cable’s death is another in a tragic month for U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

14 soldiers have been killed this month, a sharp increase in the death toll which was 4 in January and February.

An investigation into Cable’s death is ongoing.

He was guarding swearing-in ceremony of Afghan Local Police in Shinwar district in Nangarhar province.

The young man who carried out the attack escaped into Pakistan. The Taliban said he was acting independently but had joined the Islamic militant movement since fleeing the scene.

Cable’s funeral will take place on Saturday

A man in Portland, Oregon came up with the brilliant idea to rob a sun store armed with just a baseball bat and 9-inch knife – but was quickly put in his place when the store manager brandished his own firearm.

22-year-old Derrick Mosley entered Discount Gun Sales in Beaverton around 4pm Thursday, and smashed a display case to steal an unloaded semi-automatic gun.

The manager made quick work of Mosley by pulling out his own hangun.
